Getting the Creative Juices Flowing with LittleBigPlanet 3

You know how it is, you get in from a hard day in the real world and all you want to do to take the edge off is kick back, relax and save a princess/score goals/slaughter space goblins. For some, though, switching on the console is the start of a process that to many of us sounds suspiciously like work.

For these people, exploring the building blocks, Boolean logic and platform placement of LittleBigPlanet’s powerful toolset is a compelling act of self-expression; an irresistible opportunity to go beyond simply participating in play to actively collaborating on design and, in doing so, to help expand the series’ already expansive boundaries.

Star Citizen Getting Traditional and Exotic Pet System

As Star Citizen sails past its $63 million USD stretch goal, developer Cloud Imperium Games announced that it plans to introduce a traditional and exotic pet system when it hits the $64 million USD milestone.

“We have repair bots, we have fish… but we haven’t implemented a traditional pet system in Star Citizen yet. At $64 million, that changes,” writes Cloud Imperium Games founder, Chris Roberts, in an official update. “From Jones the Cat in Alien to the Battlestar Galactica’s Daggit, pets have a place onboard starships… and we want to give you that option in Star Citizen.

Pubcast Happy Hour: Uppercut Games Special

Uppercut Games is one of the most interesting indie studios operating in Australia at the moment. Not just because of its excellent output - games like Epoch and Epoch 2 - but because its three founders: Ed Orman, Andrew James and Ryan Lancaster brought with them a wealth of experience, having worked on seminal titles and franchises like BioShock, BioShock 2, Tribes: Vengeance, Fallout:Tactics, XCOM and more.

IGN AU's Lucy O'Brien and I caught up with them to chat about being an Aussie indie, their new title Submerged (check it out above) and - fascinatingly - what went wrong with XCOM: a title that the guys worked on for many, many years and saw go through numerous changes of direction. It's a pretty interesting discussion, so dig in!

Pokemon ORAS Sell 3 Million in Three Days

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire sales passed the 3 million mark within just three days of going on sale, with the handheld titles still to release in Europe.

The exact number sits in the region of 3,040,000, with 1,534,593 of those coming from Japan alone according to Famitsu (via Gematsu). The rest were made up from sales in both North America and Australia, where the game launched last Friday.

To give a bit of context, last year's Pokemon X and Y managed to sell 4 million copies in two days, but that was with the benefit of a simultaneous global release. With Europe getting its hands on ORAS this Friday, expect another spike before too soon.

Sony Boosts Faith in PS4 as TV and Smartphones Face Cuts

Sony Corp plans to streamline its television and smartphone products in an effort to cut costs, and will now rely on its better performing PlayStation 4 and image sensor segments over the next three years.

According to its new three-year electronics business plan released on Tuesday, Sony expects the division’s sales to hit between ¥1.4 and ¥1.6 trillion yen ( $11.8 and $13.6 billion), with an operating income margin between 5 and 6 percent for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2018.

Strategies to increase profit are to retain and expand engaged PlayStation users with network services like cloud TV and streaming games. It also aims to increase Average Revenue Per Paying Users and improve the retention rate of PS Plus by enhancing its value.
