A: The primary purpose of testing is to give us the information we need to balance the encounters, evaluate how mechanics are playing out in practice, and identify bugs. Regarding Last Weekend’s Hearthstone Grandmasters Tournament At the Hearthstone Grandmasters Asia-Pacific last weekend, Grandmaster Blitzchung made a comment in a post game interview about the political situation in Hong Kong. Blizzard took back his prize money and banned him from Hearthstone eSports for a year. You can see Blizzard's initial response on Hearthpwn, as well as the community reaction. I want to take a few minutes to talk to all of you about the Hearthstone Grandmasters tournament this past weekend. On Monday, we made the decision to take action against a player named blitzchung and two shoutcasters after the player shared his views on what’s happening in Hong Kong on our official broadcast channel. At Blizzard, our vision is “to bring the world together through epic entertainment.” And we have core values that apply here: Think Globally; Lead Responsibly; and importantly, Every Voice Matters, encouraging everybody to share their point of view. The actions that we took over the weekend are causing people to question if we are still committed to these values. We absolutely are and I will explain. Our esports programs are an expression of our vision and our values. Esports exist to create opportunities for players from around the world, from different cultures, and from different backgrounds, to come together to compete and share their passion for gaming. It is extremely important to us to protect these channels and the purpose they serve: to bring the world together through epic entertainment, celebrate our players, and build diverse and inclusive communities. As to how those values apply in this case: First, our official esports tournament broadcast was used as a platform for a winner of this event to share his views with the world. We interview competitors who are at the top of their craft to share how they feel. We want to experience that moment with them. Hearing their excitement is a powerful way to bring us together. Over the weekend, blitzchung used his segment to make a statement about the situation in Hong Kong—in violation of rules he acknowledged and understood, and this is why we took action. Every Voice Matters, and we strongly encourage everyone in our community to share their viewpoints in the many places available to express themselves. However, the official broadcast needs to be about the tournament and to be a place where all are welcome. In support of that, we want to keep the official channels focused on the game. Second, what is the role of shoutcasters for these broadcasts? We hire shoutcasters to amplify the excitement of the game. They elevate the watchability and help the esports viewing experience stay focused on the tournament and our amazing players. Third, were our actions based on the content of the message? Part of Thinking Globally, Leading Responsibly, and Every Voice Matters is recognizing that we have players and fans in almost every country in the world. Our goal is to help players connect in areas of commonality, like their passion for our games, and create a sense of shared community. The specific views expressed by blitzchung were NOT a factor in the decision we made. I want to be clear: our relationships in China had no influence on our decision. We have these rules to keep the focus on the game and on the tournament to the benefit of a global audience, and that was the only consideration in the actions we took. If this had been the opposing viewpoint delivered in the same divisive and deliberate way, we would have felt and acted the same. OK, what could Blizzard have done better, and where do we go from here? Over the past few days, many players, casters, esports fans, and employees have expressed concerns about how we determined the penalties. We’ve had a chance to pause, to listen to our community, and to reflect on what we could have done better. In hindsight, our process wasn’t adequate, and we reacted too quickly. We want to ensure that we maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all our players, and that our rules and processes are clear. All of this is in service of another important Blizzard value—Play Nice; Play Fair. In the tournament itself blitzchung *played* fair. We now believe he should receive his prizing. We understand that for some this is not about the prize, and perhaps for others it is disrespectful to even discuss it. That is not our intention. But playing fair also includes appropriate pre-and post-match conduct, especially when a player accepts recognition for winning in a broadcast. When we think about the suspension, six months for blitzchung is more appropriate, after which time he can compete in the Hearthstone pro circuit again if he so chooses. There is a consequence for taking the conversation away from the purpose of the event and disrupting or derailing the broadcast. With regard to the casters, remember their purpose is to keep the event focused on the tournament. That didn’t happen here, and we are setting their suspension to six months as well. Moving forward, we will continue to apply tournament rules to ensure our official broadcasts remain focused on the game and are not a platform for divisive social or political views. One of our goals at Blizzard is to make sure that every player, everywhere in the world, regardless of political views, religious beliefs, race, gender, or any other consideration always feels safe and welcome both competing in and playing our games. Shad'har the Insatiable One of N'Zoth's more abberrant creations, Shad'har the Insatiable devours anything he can. Fed by slurry secreted from the walls of its domain, this ravenous beast is wracked in constant torment as the very thing that sustains him also causes radical mutations. Overview - Shad'har the Insatiable's Slurry Breath changes its damage type and secondary effect based on the slurry present in the room. Tanks - Make sure that neither tank has both Crush and Dissolve at the same time, taunting when necessary.Avoid Slurry Breath.Use your cooldowns to reduce damage taken when Shad'har the Insatiable casts Frenzy. Uncontrollably Ravenous - Shad'har the Insatiable goes mad with hunger, increasing damage done by 250%. Slurry - When the fight starts, the room fills with a toxic slurry, which inflicts periodic damage to all players. This slurry is absorbed by Shad'har the Insatiable, and his Slurry Breath changes based on the slurry present in the room. Volatile Slurry - A fiery mixture fills the room, inflicting 2 Fire damage to all players every 1 sec. Volatile Eruption - Every few seconds, the Volatile Slurry erupts under each player, inflicting 25 Fire damage and additioanl 5 Fire damage every 1 sec for 6 sec to all players within 4 yards of the impact. This effect stacks. The frequency of these eruptions increases as the fight progresses. Bubbling Slurry - A caustic sludge fills the room, inflicting 15 Nature damage to all players every 3 sec. Bubbling Overflow - Bubbling Overflow bubbles over, growing outwards, increasing damage taken from Bubbling Slurry by 2,000%. Entropic Slurry - A dark energy fills the room, inflicting 1 Shadow damage to all players every 0.5 sec. Entropic Buildup - The Entropic Slurry builds up into shadowy orbs around the room, which explode after 15 sec, inflicting 10 damage to all players. Standing in Entropic Buildup causes players to suffer 3 Shadow damage every 1 sec, but reduces the size of Entropic Buildup, lowering the damage of the final explosion. Crush - Crushes the targets armor, inflicting 125 Physical damage and increasing damage taken from Dissolve by 400%. Dissolve - Bites the target with acidic jaws, inflicting 10 Nature damage and additional 25 Nature damage every 1 sec for 20 sec. Slurry Breath - At 100 Energy, Void hound casts a breath, inflicting damage in a cone and causing additional. The type of breath cast is dependant on the type of slurry present in the room. Volatile Breath - Expels a fiery breath, inflicting 50 Fire damage to all enemies in a cone in front of the caster. Volatile Breath - Expels a fiery breath, inflicting 50 Fire damage and disorienting all enemies for 10 sec in a cone in front of the caster. Bubbling Breath - Expels a toxic breath, inflicting 50 Nature damage to all enemies in a cone in front of the caster. Bubbling Breath - Expels a toxic breath, inflicting 50 Nature damage and an additional 10 Nature damage every 1 sec for 10 sec to all enemies in a cone in front of the caster. Entropic Breath - Expels a shadowy breath, inflicting 50 Shadow damage to all enemies in a cone in front of the caster. Living Chow - The slurry in the room coalesces into Living Chows, which fixate on random targets. When they reach their target, they cast Slurry Outburst. Slurry Outburst - The caster explodes, inflicting 75 Shadow damage to all players within 20 yards. Slurry Outburst - The caster explodes, inflicting 60 Shadow damage to all players. Being farther from the caster reduces the damage taken. Tasty Morsel - When a Living Chow explodes, it leaves behind multiple Tasty Morsels. Feeding Shad'har the Insatiable a Tasty Morsel reduces how Hungry it is, but inflicts Slimy Residue upon you. Slimy Residue - Tasty Morsel leaves residue on your hand, inflicting 4 Nature damage every 2 sec and restricts the ability to pick up further Tasty Morsels for 3 min. Any level 120 Goblin that is exalted with the Bilgewater Cartel can start the quest from Izzy at the Orgrimmar Embassy. The quest chain starts with "Old Friends, New Opportunities." Izzy says Sassy Hardwrench sent her to find you as she is putting the gang back together for a big job. She states that Sassy has arranged a ride to Kezan for you and to meet her at Hardwrench Hideaway in Stranglethorn Vale for the details.Sassy greets you on arrival and gives you the quest "A Special Delivery." She wants you to deliver a package to Hobart Grapplehammer in Crapopolis (which seems to be the new town built upon the MOTHERLODE). She has a ride waiting for you at the docks, but cautions you to mind your manners as Gallywix has purchased the whole town.Upon arriving you find Gallywix talking to Hobart. He heard that Hobart was working on something new and that he owns the rights to anything invented in perpetuity. Hobart says that contract is null and void because Gallywix forged his signature. Gallywix calls it a wild and unprovable accusation, and states once more that everything in Crapopolis belongs to him. He then takes his leave.You give the package to Hobart and receive the quest "A Simple Experiment." Hobart says with the delivered parts he can now begin testing his invention, the X-52 Personnel Armor. He knows Gallywix will be up to no good now that he knows about this potentially indestructible armor, and asks you for help with the tests.You begin by testing the armor against sub-zero temperatures. Hobart considers it a success even though the wearer has no vital signs because the armor is still intact. Next is thermal stress, to which another test subject is killed. The boots are unharmed though, so Hobart thinks he's making progress. The third subject is surrounded by explosives, and flees before the test goes off.You then receive the quest "Shopping for Parts" and are tasked with getting parts from Crank Greasefuse. He will give you the parts if you can collect enough debts for the quest "Debt Collection!" After collecting debts via killing or intimidation, you receive the thermoplugs and return to Hobart via the quest "I've Got What You Need."Hobart gives the quest "Blunt Force Testing" and says that since his lab assistants are gone or dead, you get to be the one to wear the prototype for the next set of tests! You put the armor on and are given an extra action button that will protect you from explosives and removes damage over time effects on a 10 second cooldown. This needs to be used to fight the Mechanized Lab Assistant, who uses fire bombs and other abilities to try and kill you. Upon killing the robot and surviving, you return to a pleased Hobart, who gives you the followup quest "Fun with Landmines."Your final test is to use the armor to traverse a minefield that has a refreshing coconut beverage in the center as a reward. Upon reaching it you return to Hobart throwing wrenches at Gallywix to keep him at bay while the cartel leader demands he hand over the armor. Hobart has you defeat 8 hired goons for the quest "Let's Rumble." With the goons defeated, you tell Gallywix to leave, and he runs off claiming that this isn't over.Hobart wants to find a buyer for the armor before Gallywix returns, and gives you the quest "Buyers Wanted" to return to Sassy to get the list of interested buyers.Sassy gives the quest "The VIP List" in which she asks you to hand out invitations to the private auction. The first one is Noggenfogger in Gadgetzan, then Pozzik at Fizzle and Pozzik's Speedbarge, and Gazlowe in Ratchet.When you return to Sassy, she gives the quest "Beat the Crapopolis Outta Him!" and says there is trouble. Gallywix took over Crapopolis with his goons and are holding Hobart hostage! You then must complete the Crapopolis scenario.Upon returning to Crapopolis, all three buyers are there. You then have to work your way through the city and defeat Dax Blitzbaster, who is holding Hobart hostage. After rescuing him, you loot the X-52 armor as Hobart says he added a turbo function that increases the armor's power. You are then tasked with using it to defeat Gallywix who awaits you in a giant mech!Upon defeating him, he is trapped inside his mech and your armor's power is depleted. With the buyers no longer interested you are given the armor as a reward for the quest "A Fitting Reward."This completes the chain and gives you the Heritage of Kezan, which has both a visor down and up version! The quest chain starts from Courier Claridge outside the Stormwind Embassy. Spoilers below. The chain starts with "Shadow of Gilneas." Tess says that she has asked her parents to speak with her about the future of Gilneas, and wants you to meet her in the gardens of Stormwind Keep.You arrive just in time to see Genn forbidding a request Tess has just asked of them. She responds by saying that if she is to one day lead her people, then she must understand their hardship and it is the only way.It is then made clear that Tess has asked her parents to give her the Worgen curse so that she can understand her people. She gives the ultimatum that she will have you do it for her if her parents don't oblige, and Genn responds by saying that she knows not what she is asking for, being forever torn between rage and reason, fearing for loved ones anytime they are near. Mia intervenes, saying that the Worgen curse cannot be undone, but there might be another way to gain the understanding she seeks.Mia gives you the quest "Into Duskwood", saying that she met a night elf in Teldrassil, Vassandra Stormclaw, who might be able to help Tess without resorting to an extreme measure. This is the same night elf that originally helped the worgen deal with their affliction. She asks you to see her out in Duskwood.When you arrive, Vassandra is busy explaining to Tess that Goldrinn's curse is dangerous. She says if her words alone do not suffice, then she knows another path to wisdom.You then receive "Bane of the Nightbane", which tasks you to subdue a feral worgen named Bloodeyes. Upon finding the mount and placing some meat to lure her, you use a sedative and drag her back to Vassandra, who explains that the Worgen curse affects some worse than others. She then explains that she sent Tess on a task that she has yet to return from.You then receive the quests "The Spirit of the Hunter" and "Cry to the Moon" in which Vassandra says she might be able to summon the spirit of Goldrinn to give test a taste of what she craves, but she needs bloodstained fangs from the leader of the pack at Manor Mistmantle, and a rare bloom called Elune's Grace from the east side of Duskwood.You bring the items to Vassandra and Tess at the Twilight Grove, and then receive "Waking a Dreamer." You protect Vassandra as she summons Goldrinn. He appears and places Tess's essence into a section of the Emerald Dream he has twisted into her thoughts. He then requests that you enter the dream and help guide her with the quest "Let Sleeping Wolves Lie".One inside, you begin a scenario that takes place on the day Gilneas fell. You wake Tess up, who is a Worgen in this Emerald Dream vision, and are tasked with clearing out the Forsaken and slaying Dark Ranger Thyala. You then pursue Nathanos's scent but fall into a trap and have to take out several phantasmal guards as Nathanos keeps fleeing. You then finally get to fight and kill Nathanos, but Tess is losing control and runs off. Vassandra shouts for you to chase after her.You chase her down as she mows down Forsaken to find Sylvanas killing Liam while fighting Genn. As Slyvanas leaves, an essence of rage erupts from the rabid Tess and you must kill it to free her from her madness. She then learns that all the rage and fury of the Worgen curse was still not enough to save her brother, and in the end she became nothing more than a rabid beast lost in rage. She learns that her people are not defined by the curse, but that they have held on to who they are in spite of it. She then asks Goldrinn to end the vision and you leave via portal.Tess wants to speak to her father, and gives you the quest "The New Guard" before returning to Stormwind Keep. Upon arriving, Tess explains to her parents that she was mistaken and that her people are not merely Worgen, but Gilnean. She then inducts you into the Greyguard and gives you the Heritage of Gilneas, which has a jacket version or a robe version. View the full article

Patch 8.3.0 PTR - Build 32044 - Vulpera and Mechagnome Racials and Classes Patch 8.3.0 PTR - Build 32044 Class Changes in Visions of N’Zoth Originally Posted by Blizzard In our next major content update, Visions of N’Zoth, we’re working on some tuning updates to a few specs that are under- and over-performing in various ways. Developers’ notes: Specs which excel at DoTs on multiple targets have, over the course of many tiers of content, generally had very high performance on the average. Their DPS advantage in raid encounters that play into their multi-target strength (which are relatively common) is not balanced by a comparable disadvantage in other areas. A small reduction in damage on these specs will leave them noticeably strong in the situations in which they’re strong (albeit slightly less than before), and give other specs more opportunity to stand out at other times. At the same time, a few of the Essences added in Rise of Azshara are not performing as well as we would have liked, so we’re increasing the effectiveness of some parts of them to help keep them competitive with the other Essences available. With the first build of the update on our Public Test Realm (PTR), you will see the following changes: Classes Druid Balance Moonfire damage and periodic damage reduced by 10%.Sunfire damage and periodic damage reduced by 10%.High Noon (Azerite Trait) damage increased by 11%.Power of the Moon (Azerite Trait) damage increased by 11%. Mage Frost Ice Lance damage increased by 20%. Developers’ note: Ice Lance damage hasn’t kept up with Icicles scaling, making builds that ignore Ice Lance possible. The intent of this change is to give Frost Mages a better incentive to use Ice Lance within their rotation, as a DPS net gain. This change is meant to preserve the gameplay of the trait, but limit the ability to increase its value drastically by stacking every possible bonus that reduces Holy Shock cooldown. Developers’ notes: Discipline’s ability to contribute both damage and healing is slightly too high for what one character can bring to a group composition. Warlock· Affliction Deathbolt now deals 20% of the total remaining damage of the Warlock’s damage over time effects on the target (was 30%). Developers’ note: Under certain conditions, Deathbolt provides a degree of single target burst damage that feels out of line for a spec designed around damage-over-time spells. Additionally, it has been the dominant choice for Affliction’s level 15 talent row for much of the expansion. Buying Commodities (stackable items) cannot be bid on, and are no longer bought or sold in stacks. Now, you’ll enter in the number of a commodity that you’d like to buy and the AH will automatically select the cheapest available and give you a total price. Copper is no longer displayed in the auction house, but is used for calculations behind the scenes. Selling The sell interface now displays the current market for your item, so you can easily know what to set your asking price at. For weapons and armor that vary in item level, the AH now shows auctions of all the item levels for easy price comparison. Additionally, there’s no longer any need to undercut by small amounts. Auctions at the same price point are sold last in, first out. As long as you match the current lowest price, yours will sell first. The Auctions tab now shows you where your listings currently stand in the market. Within each price point, you can see the sell priority of your lots among your competitors’ lots.
