  1. WoW Classic and Honor system - A Message from the Dev Team Originally Posted by Blizzard (Blue Tracker / Official Forums) Message from Pazorax: " I know the honor system can be frustrating, and even more so if it feels like you’re not getting credit for your efforts, so I wanted to post and let you know we are looking at people’s honor for the week, and so far all the checks we’ve done indicate that honor was calculated correctly this week . As we mentioned before, our data repair job on Monday caused the “This week” totals to display an inflated value for the rest of the day, and that appears to explain a lot of the confusion we’ve seen so far. We also know that some players confuse “estimated honor” with actual honor (estimates don’t account for diminishing returns), or confuse honor with rank (honor is earned from kills, rank is based on your relative standing within your faction). The honor system is slow to progress you through the ranks, even in the best case, so many of these reports aren’t a case of the honor going “missing” as much as they’re a case of an unforgiving system giving you less progress toward a rank than you were expecting. In addition to being based on your relative standing within your faction, your progress to the next rank also slows down as you reach higher ranks. Achieving the same standing each week won’t award the same amount of progress toward each rank, it awards a fixed percentage of the delta between your current rank, and your current standing. It is actually impossible to achieve rank 14 in less than 12 weeks, and that assumes that you’re the top player on your faction for every one of those 12 weeks. Those are all intentional behaviors, and are not bugs, but they can all contribute to a feeling of difficulty progressing through the ranks. We also see reports of missing kills when you’re playing during the daily reset job, and we’ve checked that too. In fact, I just checked right now, on some of the people who reported errors in this thread, and last night’s job did calculate their honor correctly. Those kills are still there, its just a display issue, and they’ll show up on the next day’s daily report now that the underlying issue is fixed. We are continuing to investigate, but at this time we don’t see any problems in the week 3 data. Once we conclude this investigation we can move on to investigating the problems that occurred during week 1 and 2, and we’re beginning to do that now. Thank you again for your patience as we work through these issues." View the full article

Patch 8.3 PTR - New Pet Battle Dungeon: Blackrock Depths Originally Posted by blizzard (Blue Tracker / Official Forums) It’s time to marshal your menagerie and put your best battle pets forward in the volcanic labyrinth of Blackrock Depths, a new Pet Battle Dungeon with Normal and Challenge difficulties available with the release of Visions of N’Zoth. At long last, we’ve discovered the secret headquarters of the sinister group that has been conducting vile experiments on critters across Azeroth. Soon, Pet Battle Dungeon challengers will be able to embark on the final fight to stop their machinations and reveal the truth behind this shadowy organization. To get started on your journey, you’ll need to have completed the four previous Pet Battle Dungeon quests: “Wailing Critters,” “The Deadmines Strike Back,” “Gnomeregan’s New Guardians,” and “Tiny Terrors of Stratholme.” Once all four quest lines have been completed at Normal or Challenge difficulty, you’ll be able to accept a new quest from Tizzy Gearjolt in Boralus or Radek Fuselock in Dazar’alor and begin your Blackrock Depths pet battle journey. Pets from just about every family will stand against you in Blackrock Depths, so you’ll need to come prepared with a variety of your own to succeed. You’ll be able to heal and revive your pets between each of the 9 stages in Normal difficulty, but not in Challenge difficulty. Defeating the dungeon on Normal difficulty will earn players an Ultimate Battle-Training Stone and unlock Challenge difficulty. You’ll also be able to avail yourself of Manapoof’s aid to teleport directly to Blackrock Depths’ dungeon entrance as a part of the quest reward. Those who prove themselves to be the very best on Challenge difficulty will earn the achievement Pet Battle Challenge: Blackrock Depths along with Shadowy Disguise, a toy that disguises you as a shadowy figure for 15 seconds. Completing Challenge difficulty will count toward a weekly quest that rewards Shadowy Gems, an account-bound currency that you redeem for an Unopened Blackrock Supply Crate filled with pet supplies, or for three new pets—Wailing Lasher, Experiment 13, and Tinyclaw. Speak with Burt Macklyn at the entrance of the dungeon to add one of these powerful fiends to your ranks. Completing all five Pet Battle Dungeons (Wailing Caverns, The Deadmines, Gnomeregan, Stratholme, and Blackrock Depths) on Challenge difficulty will reward you with The Shadows Revealed achievement and the Mayhem Mind Melder toy which lets you take control of your companion pet for 30 seconds. Whether you’re new to pet battle dungeons or a companion-combat veteran, you’ll want to get in on the ongoing story as it unfolds. Who are the shadowy figures that keep appearing in each pet battle dungeon? What exactly have they been building with all of the parts they’ve collected from Pet Battle Dungeons over the years? Discover what awaits your critter pals next in Blackrock Depths! View the full article

A: The primary purpose of testing is to give us the information we need to balance the encounters, evaluate how mechanics are playing out in practice, and identify bugs. Once we’re satisfied that we’ve received that information for a given boss, we’ll be shutting down testing. Usually this takes anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, but there are no guarantees. 6. WoW Classic - Honor Issue Update Originally Posted by Blizzard (Blue Tracker) So what do you think? is this fix happening or not? It sure is! We’re running a repair job for this week right now. One thing to note about this repair job is that it will zero-out the kill count display for today, but that is just a display issue. In order to get this out as soon as possible, we’re leveraging the existing daily summary code, and one of the things it does is reset the daily kill-count display. The kills are all still there and will be tracked in the daily summary code tomorrow morning, just before it runs the weekly summary code. So to summarize, if you see your daily kills get set to 0, that’s okay, and those kills will still be counted. While you are around! Does this fix effect anything for players missing honor Weeks #1 and #2? Any response would be awesome! Thank you No, this job will not affect any of the results in previous weeks. The steps to fully resolve an issue like this are: Identify the source of the problem Stop it from getting worse Determine the scope of the damage done Repair the damage if possible. While we’re at step 4 for this week’s data, we’re really at step 2 for the problem at large (repairing this week’s summaries keep the problem at large from getting worse). While we’ve seen anecdotal reports of lost honor, it’s only now that we know the source of the problem that we can identify how widespread the damage from it was, and that investigation is still ongoing. I want to thank everybody that provided constructive feedback, and detailed information that helped us identify the issue here. Well that really stinks losing about a 1/4th of my total honor gains for the first two weeks all while being told the kills were still “accounted for”. But thanks for the reply. Just to be clear, we do have the kills logged (for previous weeks as well). What I said is that this action doesn’t affect previous weeks’ results, and we’re still investigating the scope of the damage, now that the cause has been identified. Just relogged again and gained another 35,000 honor. While I appreciate the reports, panic is unwarranted. The incorrect honor values in “this week” are another display bug. The repair job runs one day at a time, and one realm at a time, so that’s why logging out and back in was displaying more honor. You caught it between days on the first login, and had additional days processed before the next login. After this repair job completes the running weekly total displayed for “this week” will be a total of: the incorrect honor you had before the repair the correct honor you have as a result of the repair That will not be the value used for the weekly rank adjustments. The weekly rank adjustment will correctly use the results of the repair. Tomorrow, after the weekly reset runs, you should see the correct value in the “Last Week” display, which was actually used to calculate your rank adjustment for the week. We’re working as fast as we can to have this repaired before the weekly job runs, so our focus has been on the data that actually feeds into the weekly honor calculations, not on the display, which actually pulls the data from a different source, that’s optimized for in-game display, rather than for calculation by these jobs. I hope that explains what everybody is seeing, but if you see something inconsistent with what I just explained, please say so. After all, that’s how we found this issue in the first place! TLDR: “This week” honor currently has a bugged display (shows too much honor). “Today kills” currently has a bugged display (DKs too, shows too few kills). All the kills are still logged, none have been lost. Everything for this week should be correct after weekly restarts We’ll take a look at previous weeks as soon as this week’s issues are fully resolved. I hope that gives everybody some peace of mind. 7. WoW Classic - Honor Display Issue Originally Posted by Blizzard Entertainment It would be nice to have a blue at least respond saying there is an issue… I agree, but unfortunately we didn’t have the chance to respond sooner. We’ve been investigating, and can now confirm that yes, this is a separate issue, that’s not related to the caching issues we were experiencing previously. The caching issues made it more difficult to uncover this issue, and I appreciate the detailed reports of which kills were missing and over what time range which helped us track this down. We’re getting pretty close to fixing this, and it turns out it was caused by the daily honor script running before the end of the day, causing it to miss kills that haven’t yet happened. But worry not! Those kills are still recorded, they just weren’t getting collected into the daily statistics correctly, so they’re not displaying in-game for “yesterday” or “this week” kills/honor. The source of the issue appears to be a scheduling system treating a UTC time as a local time, and we believe we’ve found and fixed that problem a few minutes ago. We’re also working on a fix to repair the daily statistics which we’re hoping to run Monday, in advance of the weekly rank adjustment, so it will correctly count all your kills and honor correctly for this week. I want to stress, that we do have all the kills recorded, even though you can’t see them all in-game, and we’re working hard to get the weekly statistics correct. Thank you for your patience as we untangle this issue. Patch 8.3 PTR - Black Empire Campaign - Unlocking The Uldum Accord Faction and Uldum Assaults The recent PTR updates have allowed us to preview a more coherent quest chain that kicks off the patch when you log in on patch day. This quest chain is labeled as "Black Empire Campaign" in the quest log. We will preview the quest chain in different parts throughout the week. Part 1 - Unlocking The Uldum Accord Faction and Uldum Assaults Upon logging in, you'll receive the quest "An Unwelcome Advisor (A)" or "Return of the Black Prince (H)" from your faction and report to them. There is an "awesome in-game event cutscene" that is not yet implemented here. It would appear that N'Zoth's corruption is already reaching its way into our minds and we must go with Magni and Wrathion to see what we can uncover.Wrathion remarks that it was a pleasant reunion before telling you to meet him in Silithus. There are only a few faction differences in the chain. If you are Alliance, you attend the Stormwind meeting first hand. Magni requests for his hammer and gives you the quest "Return of the Warrior King." You walk with Anduin to retrieve Fearbreaker, to which Anduin says he was never able to live up to its legacy, and even Baine thought himself unworthy to wield it. Magni says he wouldn't have given it to Anduin if he didn't think he deserved it, and Anduin remarks that the hammer belongs with a Mountain King. You find the hammer on the wall and retrieve it before heading back to the Chamber of Heart with the quest "Where the Heart Is." If you are Horde, you find Valeera in the Port of Zandalar and she recalls these events for you. When you arrive, Magni asks Wrathion if he has had any luck finding N'Zoth. Wrathion says his Blacktalon operatives have searched the world to no avail. He then remarks that in his research he came across references to a place called Ny'alotha and thinks it might not be a physical location, but a vision waiting to be made real. Magni suggests that get Azeroth's titan-made defenses ready and then find a target to point it at. He gives you the quest "Network Diagnostics" and asks you to activate Titan Consoles in the chamber to check the status of the titan forges throughout Azeroth. You find that Uldir's corruption is within acceptable parameters, Uldaman's discs are still secure, the Forge of Wills in Ulduar is still operational, but the Forge of Origination in Uldum is inactive. Wrathion says we can all safely assume what this "root cause" of the deactivation might be.Magni gives you the quest "A Titanic Problem" and tells you to meet him outside the Halls of Origination in Uldum. Without the Forge, Azeroth is vulnerable to N'Zoth's corruption. You meet Magni at the entrance and get the quest "The Halls of Origination." Magni says the Halls have been claimed by a group of tol'vir calling themselves the Amathet. He suggests we enter the Halls, defeat the Amathet forces and reactivate the forge. You enter the dungeon and start a scenario, fighting your way through Amathet forces as one of their Sun Priests seems angered that you defile the Halls with the Curse of Flesh. You fight your way to the inner chambers and deactivate the forge's defense system by shutting down 4 control statues. You then reach the elevator to find Watcher Aun-ka, who attacks you for being an unauthorized life form. Magni is concerned that the Amathet can make their own watchers, but suggests we worry about it later. He tries to activate the lift, but the power has been shut off, so we head to the conduits. What follows is a puzzle to redirect power to the conduit. Once it is active, you fight Sun Prophet Tenhamen who ends up being a minion of N'Zoth in disguise. When you defeat him, N'zoth briefly enters your mind, stating that "their eyes remain closed to the true path. Not like you. My devoted chosen." Magni brings you back to reality, and you head back to the lift.Magni links to MOTHER in the Chamber of Heart, and you attempt to activate the power conduits, but you eventually need to use your Heart of Azeroth to interface with the main console to restore power and get another "awesome in-game event," reactivating the forge. Magni gives you the quest "To Ramkahen" and tells you to meet with King Phaoris to discuss having his tol'vir keep the forge out of the wrong hands. When you arrive, Arik Scorpidsting is requesting an audience with the King, but the High Commander forbids it. The king notices you, and allows you to speak, giving you the quest "The Uldum Accord" and says our interest to protect the forge aligns with the tol'vir. He asks you to learn about the threats facing Uldum. You inspect the map for another "awesome in-game event" and King Phaoris establishes the Uldum Accord composed of the Watsewanders, The Explorer's League, and his tol'vir to protect Uldum. The King gives you the quest "Surfacing Threats" and asks you to speak to the High Commander to assess the situation, which has you complete an assault in Uldum. The Uldum Accord faction reputation, Uldum Accord dailies, and assaults in Uldum will be unlock at this point.Completing the assault gives you the quest "Forging Onward" which has you return to Magni in the Chamber of Heart. This will award you with the Token of Death's Door essence.Part two preview coming soon. View the full article

PCGamer Blizzard Interview with Diablo's Original Creators PCGamer posted an article recently with David Brevik, Erich Schaefer, and Max Schaefer (Founders of Blizzard North and creators of Diablo). The full interview will be up later, but the three discussed how Blizzard as a company has completely changed since their involvement. The only original Blizzard developers who remain are senior art director Samwise Didier and senior vice president Allen Adham.Max says the old Blizzard is gone. It has grown from a small company into an empire.Blizzard is now a video game empire that has to appease shareholders. The change in values and culture is a natural part of any company growing into a massive corporation. There was a constant battle between Blizzard North and Blizzard Entertainment (the main branch) over Diablo 2's gory, dark aesthetic. As the company grew, it became harder for the trio to focus on creative design and avoid corporate bureaucracy.A big difference between then and now is that they didn't talk about shareholder value. The only thing they ever discussed was what they wanted to create and what fans would like. You can't grow that big and be as free-wheeling as the past. One of the reasons that they left was to be more self-deterministic and not be beholden to some monstrous organization. The three left Blizzard back in 2003 and never had to deal with the modern challenges facing the company. They agree that sometimes you wake up in the morning and you're in a no win situation, which is what Blizzard faced with the Blitzchung controversy. They believe that Blizzard buckling under pressure from the Chinese government was a "conspiracy theory" and just thought with their wallets first, which underestimated people's perception of the decision. They agree that Blizzard had to do something because if not the company would have become a free speech platform for any kind of political movement that anybody wants to take up. It was not handed perfectly, however, and that's why Blizzard apologized. Dark Legacy Comics #704 DLC #704 has been released. View the full article
