Oculus Raises $16 Million to Bring Rift VR Headset to Market

During E3 2013, we had the opportunity to check out a new 1080p prototype of the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, and needless to say, it was pretty amazing. But the big question is when the average consumer can expect to purchase the final version. Unfortunately, there's still no set date, but Oculus has taken a huge step toward release with a major round of funding.

Samsung Galaxy Users to Receive New Jay-Z Album 72 Hours Early

If you happened to be watching Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Sunday night, you may have noticed a strange--and somewhat lengthy--commercial spot featuring Jay-Z. The end of the ad featured Samsung's "The Next Big Thing" slogan, and sure enough, word has come of a partnership between the Galaxy S4 smartphone maker and the rap superstar.

Samsung has purchased one million advance copies of Jay-Z's upcoming album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, reports The Wall Street Journal. Reportedly, the electronics giant paid $5 a pop for the digital records, which Samsung plans to give away free to Galaxy users 72 hours prior to the album's official release on July 4.

First Leaked Image of Logitech's iOS Game Controller

Third-party game controllers exist for iOS devices currently. But the biggest problem surrounding those peripherals is a lack of real support from Apple. When iOS 7 launches this fall, it appears Cupertino is finally looking to apply its blessing to gamepads, already announcing partnerships with Logitech and Moga. Kotaku has reportedly received an image of one such controller, meant to wrap around a fifth-gen iOS screen.

Hitman: Absolution Dev Lays Off Half of Staff

Hitman: Absolution developer IO Interactive has laid off half of its staff. In a statement provided to Develop, an IO spokesperson said the studio is “making significant changes at IO Interactive as we align our business against a changing and challenging market.”

According to IO, “Hannes Seifert, formerly Production Director for 3 years at the studio, will take over the position of Studio Head at IO. The studio will focus resolutely on the future vision for the Hitman franchise and is in pre-production on a new triple-A Hitman project.”

"However,” the statement continues, “we have taken the difficult decision to cancel other studio projects and initiatives at IO and reduce the workforce in this studio, which will impact almost half of the employees currently at IO, as we make internal adjustments to face the challenges of today’s market.”

    The Humble Origins of Titanfall

“I think we’re really good.” Vince Zampella says it almost like a question. At the time of our interview, Respawn Entertainment’s general manager has lived in a world where Titanfall, his studio’s first game, has only been known to the public for 30 hours. It was the last announcement at Microsoft’s E3 2013 media briefing, the tantalizing “and one more thing...” finale to the publisher’s debut of its next-generation software. Zampella didn’t know what to expect. “We went in blind,” he says, unaware of how Titanfall’s visuals, ambition, and quality would stack up next to everything else on Microsoft’s stage.

Yet even after the enormously positive reception to Titanfall's reveal, part of Zampella seems to wonder if it's "really good."
