    Gamers Respond to E3 2013

With new console announcements and fan favorites returning (looking at you, Mirror's Edge), there was a lot to take in at E3 this year. Now that the dust has started to settle, we went to Twitter and asked the IGN community what they thought about this year's big show.

The best E3 in years. There is the excitement of next-gen consoles, plus current and indie stuff had a great showing.

    — Brandon Whetstone (@brandondryrock)

It was pretty awesome. Kinda wish that Beyond Good and Evil 2 made some presence there this year though.

Skulls of the Shogun: Bone-a-Fide Edition Announced

Skulls of the Shogun developer 17-Bit announced today that a revised and expanded edition of the studio's turn-based strategy game is available for preorder now on Steam, with a full release scheduled for next month. The new Bone-a-Fide Edition can be grabbed for $11.99 now or $14.99 at launch. Check the trailer:

So, what separates this version from the original? I'm glad you asked! The Bone-a-Fide Edition includes a new four-chapter campaign episode, a new Tanuki unit type, new multiplayer maps, and developer commentary, among other fresh bells and whistles. Multiplayer has also been revised. A new progression system should help keep gamers coming back to earn emblems and rank-ups, and a new asynchronous multiplayer option has also been included.

Shadowrun Returns' Entire Campaign is Fully Moddable

Shadowrun Returns' Entire Campaign is Fully Moddable

Shadowrun Returns developer Harebrained Schemes has announced that its upcoming cyberpunk RPG's entire campaign will be completely open and available in the game's editor tools. This will let players remix and tweak any element of the campaign that they see fit, or just poke around and see how various game elements were created.

Hairbrained Scehems founder and Shadowrun creator Jordan Weismen specifically singled out Trent Reznor as inspiration for opening up the campain to such a high degree.

"The idea of releasing all of the editor files for the Shadowrun Returns campaign was based on my experience working with Trent Reznor on the Alternate Reality Game (ARG) for his album Year Zero. Trent empowered his fans to re-mix his music anyway they wished by releasing the GarageBand tracks with the album. With Shadowrun Returns we are doing the same thing, players can start from what we have created and build on it, revise it, or use it as a starting point for completely new stories. I believe we are the first to release an editable version of an entire campaign, and we are excited to see where the players take this universe," Weisman said in a statement.

DICE: Mirror's Edge 'Deserves a Proper Launch'

If the reveal trailer for Mirror's Edge reboot proved one thing, it's that DICE appears to understand what made the original special. The great fear was that a sequel would abandon the female lead, underemphasized gun combat, and clinical aesthetic. Instead of trying to make Mirror's Edge more "mainstream," executive producer Patrick Bach tells IGN that DICE needs "to take good care of what Mirror’s Edge is supposed to be and do something great with it.”

So why couldn't Mirror's Edge 2 have happened sooner? Why is now the right time?

"Why not now?" Bach says. “We had to dwell on what it should be and what it could be, as well as find the right focus for the franchise, bringing it back and not just rushing it out there. I think the franchise deserves a proper launch."
